More Billy Joel More Billy Joel

American music legend Billy Joel is set to receive the documentary treatment this year.

Deadline reports that HBO will air a new documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes, later this year – likely this winter (and summer in the US).

The project will be a two-part documentary directed by Susan Lacy and Jessica Levin. Producers include Pentimento Production, which is run by Lacy, Levin, and Emma Pildes, as well as Hazy Mills ProductionsSean Hayes and Todd Milliner, Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, Steve Cohen, Nancy Abraham, Lisa Heller, and Sara Rodriguez.

According to the documentary’s description, And So It Goes will explore the “love, loss and personal struggles that fuel his storytelling” and feature “never-before-seen performances, home movies, personal photographs, and one-on-one interviews.”

Lacy said of the project in a statement, “For those who think they know Joel’s story, as well as those who are not as familiar, I believe this two-part film is both a revelation and a surprise.

“I was drawn to his story as someone who knew little at the outset, and was astounded at how autobiographical his songs are and how complex his story is. We are gratified that Bill trusted us with his story, which we have told as honestly as possible, diving into territory which has not been explored before.”

Farnell added: “Tonight is a joyous celebration of Joel and his career. He is a consummate entertainer who has crafted a fine body of work that has been engineered to have the broadest possible appeal. Thousands of people leave the MCG beaming and looking very satisfied.”
