John Butler Releases Soulful New Single From Upcoming Solo Album

More John Butler More John Butler

For over two decades, John Butler has given his audiences a unique blend of folk, rock and roots, never failing to showcase his pedal board wizardry through music. His new single, Trippin On You, is no exception to this, bringing it back to that classic Butler goodness his fanbase fell in love with.

“This song is about relationships, work and internal narratives,” Butler explains. “I’m struck that ALL good things in my life need work to maintain their goodness. Mental health, marriage, business relationships, a garden, a clean room, trust and reliability etc. They all need us to turn up. They all deserve our best selves.”

He added, “This my advice to you: sometimes the truth hurts, [and] everything worth keeping takes a lot of work.”

Taken from his upcoming studio album and recorded solely by Butler and his co-producer James Ireland in Fremantle, this vibrant anthem exceeds with energy, perfect for a windows-down drive through the city streets or country roads.

Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore brings the song to life visually, with Trippin On You‘s music video displaying the struggle of a couple’s relationship in front of a quintessentially Australian setting with a touch of Pueblo’s New Mexico.

As a fruitful and multi-faceted artist and activist, Butler has thrived both in a trio and as a solo artist.

With his new band, featuring original John Butler Trio member Michael Barker on drums, Michael Boase on percussion and Ian Peres on bass and keys, Butler will play in Busselton on 12 April as part of the SummerSalt lineup alongside Missy Higgins, Fanning Dempsey National Park, The Waifs and more, before heading to Bluesfest to play on Sunday 20 April.

Butler will be following these dates with an extensive US tour spanning over June, July and August 2025. You can find more touring information on his website.

In other John Butler news, the singer recently teamed up with The Australia Institute and blasted the gas industry, highlighting its “exploitation of Australians and our economy” ahead of the federal election.

Butler said of the campaign, I wanted to convey to the Australian public how much they were being deceived by Big Gas and really show the spirit in which this industry operates within our country and, more disturbingly, within our governments.”
