The House Select Committee focusing on China’s ruling communist party referred to the regime in Beijing as one that supports “slave” and “concentration camps” on Friday evening.

The majority GOP committee blasted the Chinese Communist Party over its human rights abuses in response to a tweet from the country’s American embassy that appeared to be a swipe at President Donald Trump.

After Trump hiked tariffs on Chinese goods to 145%, the country’s verified X embassy account commented, “Give the bully an inch, he will take a mile.”

The account attributed the quote to Lin Jian, the Deputy Director of the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, with a date of April 11, 2025.

Roughly six hours later, the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party blasted the “authoritarian” regime running China.

“The Chinese Communist Party is a brutal authoritarian regime that has carried out genocide, thrown innocent men and women into concentration camps, and built a slave labor empire to enrich Xi Jinping and his inner circle,” the committee account sounded off.

The Chinese US Embassy was widely mocked by others on X who came across the tweet – with most accounts taking note of China’s human rights abuses and expansionism:

As the trade war escalates, some including Shark Tank investor Kevin O’Leary are cheering the idea of taking on China, saying it’s an overdue battle. Most others in the media and financial industries say the costs to the American worker far outweigh any benefit.
