Doctor Aphra – Chaos Agent’ Brings the Galaxy’s Greatest Grifter Into the New Republic Era [Exclusive]

Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics are expanding the Star Wars universe once again with a brand-new ongoing series centered on one of the galaxy’s most unpredictable antiheroes. Collider is thrilled to exclusively reveal that, launching this June, Star Wars: Doctor Aphra – Chaos Agent will see the rogue archaeologist embark on a totally original adventure set in the era of the New Republic — after the events of Return of the Jedi. Written by Cherish Chen (Radiant Red), with art by Gabriel Guzman, the new series is set to follow Aphra as she teams up with none other than Luke Skywalker in a race to track down a rare artifact. However, the biggest twist may come from Aphra herself — her signature tattoos, which have always played a vital role in her survival and scheming, no longer function.

First introduced in Darth Vader #3 (2015) by Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca, Doctor Aphra has become a fan-favorite character known for her cunning, self-serving attitude and moral ambiguity. Her previous solo series followed her exploits as a treasure hunter and con artist, often trying desperately to toe the line between reluctant hero and opportunistic villain. But now, in Chaos Agent, she finds herself operating under an entirely new status quo.

Doctor Aphra Fans Will Love the New Status Quo

Alongside the announcement, writer Cherish Chen expressed her excitement about tackling Aphra’s next chapter:

“In my humble opinion, there isn’t a more fun character to be writing in the Star Wars galaxy than the one and only Doctor Aphra. Cooking up new adventures for her in this new era, throwing her into increasingly tricky moral quandaries, and testing her resolve (alongside some familiar faces) has truly been like playing in the ultimate sandbox. Our favorite chaos agent is back and I cannot wait to share what we’ve been working on and for you all to see Gabriel’s incredibly dynamic art.”

Editor Mark Paniccia teased the unexpected challenges Aphra will face in the series, hinting that even the galaxy’s most notorious trickster might finally meet her match:

Aphra fans are gonna LOVE this unexpected new status quo, one that even our brilliant Doctor will struggle to navigate. Her patience will be tested, her wits will be challenged, and — say it isn’t so — her ego will get bruised! Who can outsmart the galaxy’s greatest grifter? Cherish will drop clues. See if you can solve the mystery!”

Exactly what that mystery is remains to be seen, but the inclusion of Luke Skywalker himself is highly intriguing. How their dynamic plays out, and what artifact they’re chasing, remains a question to be answered, but knowing Aphra, it won’t be a smooth ride.

The official covers for the first issue can be seen above. Doctor Aphra – Chaos Agent will go on sale from June 18, 2025. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates from Star Wars.
