Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) singled out Fox News’s Jeanine Pirro for a fact-check at a rally on Tuesday night.
Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) continued their Fighting Oligarchy Tour, appearing in Folsom, California. The progressive duo has been traveling the country trying to rally the Democratic base after bruising losses in November’s elections. At one point during her speech, Ocasio-Cortez referenced some recent comments by Pirro on The Five.
Last week, Pirro defended Elon Musk and his “Department of Government Efficiency,” which has gutted various federal agencies.
“We found out that, you know, not only DEI and not only the USAID sending money for the– you know, all of these crazy shows,” Pirro said. “But we found out that there are people who are between the ages of one and four are getting Social Security, that we’ve got something like $69 million of taxpayers who are dead.”
Ocasio-Cortez addressed that comment on Tuesday.
“Just yesterday [sic], I saw on Fox News, you had this woman, Jeanine Pirro,” AOC said. “She says, as though this is fraud, she says that they found so many babies and two-year-olds and four-year-olds who are receiving Social Security. I’ve got a notice for you, Jeanine Pirro. Those babies get Social Security because their parents died. That’s not a waste. That’s humanity. That’s America. That’s the country that we fight for! Those are the promises we make to one another!”
During the episode in question, Pirro was fact-checked in real-time by her co-host, Jessica Tarlov
“That’s the benefit for kids whose parents are dead,” she noted.
“Let me finish,” Pirro replied.
“Cool,” Tarlov shot back.
