What is the English Premier League?
The English Premier League (EPL) is the pinnacle of English football. It’s home to some of the world’s top soccer talent and some of the most famous, successful and storied clubs in the world, including Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.
The Premier League was established in 1992 after the top division of the English Football League (EFL) broke off and formed its own league. Teams from the EFL are occasionally promoted to the EPL. The Premier League hosts 20 clubs from across England and sees some of the most dynamic, competitive play of any league in the world.
Some of the world’s top footballers have come out of or played in the Premier League, including David Beckham, Harry Kane, Cristiano Ronaldo, Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry.

This year, play started on August 17, 2024. The season will end on May 25, 2025.
How Long is the Premier League Season?
The Premier League’s season runs from August until May of the next year. This makes the EPL’s season one of the longer seasons in the world, as far as pro sports go.

Manchester United and Liverpool have the most titles, with a whopping 20 championship wins each. They’re followed by Arsenal (13) and Manchester City (10). Chelsea, the other member of the Big Four, has 6 wins, while Big Six member Tottenham Hotspur has just two.
